The BTX Caliper Electrodes are in vivostyle re-usable electrodes that are used for a variety ofapplications. Caliper Electrodes come in two models, with eachmodel consisting of a caliper and a pair of end plates. Model 384are used for smaller animals with a smaller surface area, whilemodel 384L is used to target slightly larger surface areas. The endplates of the Caliper Electrode may be adjusted by using the blackroller mounted on the caliper. Caliper Electrodes may be cleanedwith a mild detergent and sterilized with ethanol or ethyleneoxide. Properly maintained Caliper Electrodes have an unlimitedlife, and are compatible with most BTX Electroporation Systems.

Caliper Electrodes may be used for many electroporationapplications, including drug and gene delivery. The electrodes spanthe target area following injection of the molecule of interest,and electroporation pulses are delivered using a BTXElectroporation System, such as the ECM 600, ECM 630, ECM 830, ECM2001, or T820. The electric field introduced by the CaliperElectrodes cause transient pores to form in the cells of thetissue, allowing uptake of the molecules into the cells.Prud''Homme et al. used the Caliper electrodes to deliver plasmidDNA to skin for gene therapy studies on diabetes.1 Mir et al. usedthe Caliper Electrode for in vivo skeletal muscle work2 as well assubcutaneous tumor electrochemotherapy applications3. CaliperElectrodes can potentially be used for intact plant work aswell.4
Caliper Electrodes complement BTX Tweezertrodes Model 520, 522; BTXGenetrodes Model 508(S) and 510(S); and BTX 2 Needle ArrayElectrodes Model 530, 531, 532, 533 as part of the BTX in vivoelectrode line. Caliper Electrodes can be used to reproduceapplications requiring Tweezertrodes (transdermal) andGenetrodes/2-Needle.
